my essay...... Air Pollution

A big city which has many industry areas gives complete facilities for society. All factories provide products which are needed by people. Although the factories are very useful, they also have a major disadvantage. industry areas increase plooution in a big city especially air pollution. Air pollution causes negative effects like spreading diseases, decreasing the agricultural production and killing animals. Since the science and technology develop rapidly, the environment is polluted by smoke from the factory’s chimney. the pollutans have caused people suffer serious illness, farmers loss the crop and animal die. One of the characteristics of air pollution is spreading diseases such as breath disease, skin cancer and cataract. Breath disease caused by the toxical substances in the air. Besides of that, air pollution make some holes on the ozon’s layer, so it can not protect people from Ultraviolet light that damages skin and eyes.Decreasing the agricultural production is another characteristic of air pollution. Air pollution causes acid rain which harms the plants and decreases the soil fertility, so the yield will not increase. the last characteristic is killing animals. Sulphuric acid from air pollution will react with gasesin the air, so it will be dangerous for animals. That toxical substance will kill the animals around the industry areas.

Carbon monoxide which is one of the toxical substances from factory's smoke damages human's health. When people inhale the air which is polluted by carbon monoxide, it can disturb the work of blood. Hemoglobin usually carries oxygen from the air. If carbon monoxide pollutes human’s blood, hemoglobin will carry carbon monoxide easier than oxygen. Carbon monoxide and hemoglobin will form a stronger chemical molecule called carboxihemoglobin. It can decrease the amount of oxygen in the blood, so people will out of breath when they inhale carbon monoxide. People will die if more than 70% of carbon monoxide pollutes their blood. There are many areas which are polluted by the factory’s smoke. Morokrembangan is one of the polluted districts in Surabaya. It is polluted by the asphalt factory owned by PT. Summitama Intinusa. Since the factory was built, the air has been polluted by the smoke from the factory's chimney. People who live near the factory were restless because they suffered breath disease like asthmatic. Because of that, the villagers demanded the factory owner to pay the cost that they had spent for medical treatment and reduce the pollution. If the factory could not decrease the pollution, the villagers of Morokrembangan would ask the government to close the factory.
